Okay, so I totally didn't bother to post up a reaction to the end of Hana Yori Dango 2, even though it's on my top Drama list. I'll post on that some other day, for today is the day that i talk about the wonderful Nodame Cantabile Live Action, based on the manga by the same name by Ninomiya Tomoko (I think I'm attached to the name Ninomiya.) ^^
I've been browsing the Roll -- I've seen the name Nodame Cantabile plenty of times. I've seen the manga in bookstores here in my country, and that, my friends, is really something. I tried watching the first episode and got to almost finishing it (around two months ago), but since HanaDan catched up on me I didn't bother to finish the rest. I was laughing all the way through that first episode, though -- Stresseman was really funny.
But now I'm on break, and thus i discover one of the best dramas ever. I've been trying to download Nodame for a while now (but three other dramas share that internet connection -- Kurosagi, Gokusen 1 and Haikei), and seeing that I am a complete Johnny fangirl (Yamapi, Matsujun and Nino respectively), I put the three on my top priority list. Big mistake (well, somewhat. Haikei's only nice since Nino's there), since I really grew to love Nodame Cantabile.
I love their portrayal of Chiaki and Nodame's relationship -- it was quite refreshing, since not only does the story concentrate on their relationship emotionally, their feelings about each other, but it also dealt with it connection with their careers. I find it sweet that Nodame's trying her best to catch up to Chiaki, for she didn't do it in order to be recognized by Chiaki and for him to be amazed -- she did it for herself, in order to be able to perform on the same stage and for them to be on the same level. It's a very good relationship, since they help each other improve in their areas even if they didn't know it.
Nodame's wholeheartedness and clumsiness and indifference to her hygiene was a new twist to the typical shoujo manga/dorama heroine. It was really cute to see her interacting with Chiaki, coming from the mould of the cold-hearted geniuses (like Sano from HanaKimi). But somehow Chiaki's a new take on this cold-hearted mould thing-- he's funny on his own (especially when his eyes roll back and his mouth twitches -- I heart you, Tamaki Hiroshi!!!). So when you put Chiaki and Nodame together, you get two different kinds of funny, making it a whole lot funnier.
Chiaki and Nodame can be so sweet...XD I like it whenever Chiaki looks at Nodame and he looks inspired when he starts conducting, and with Nodame being his source of inspiration. So so cute.
I also found myself screaming Chiaki's name in a few scenes (UOH, that scene in Fukuoka! IN FUKUOKAAA!!)
On to the other characters. I like Mine and Kiyora (they're like a reverse version of Chiaki and Nodame), but I'm really fond of Masumi. I don't know why, he's like a gay version of Tamaki (from Ouran). Masumi is so cute!! I find it especially funny when he protects Chiaki from the freaky new guy fron the Buffon International contest thing. I was surprised when that came out. XD Sakura's pretty cute too, although since i didn't reach the ending of the first four episodes, I don't know what happened why she was still in Momogaoka, but who cares. Also, S-Oke's performances were so cool, as well as RS-Oke's. The one with Rhapsody in Blue was really cute, as well as their first performance of Beethoven's Symphony no.7. I was surprised when i saw RS-Oke do the Cello-twist again in the final episode.
All in all, Nodame makes it to my top drama list, beating EVEN princess hours! why? I don't know. Maybe it's the humor. I think it's the comedy which really made Nodame shine for me. All those 'gyabo' scenes, Chiaki-complaining-about-Nodame scenes, that scene with the Kotatsu (kotatsus are big things for the Japanese, eh?), STRESSEMAN! Man, Stresseman was really funny. I really like his accent. And of course, the trademark Nodame humor, which i think Ueno Juri was able to play really well. I really love this drama, and i hope they make a sequel.
P.S: Out of the two, HanaDan and Nodame, if I were to pick what manga should I buy, I'd buy Nodame. I don't know why, but I think I'd enjoy the Nodame manga better than the HanaDan manga. The Nodame manga would be quite boring, though, since there's no actual sound to accompany it. ^^
